Alto Hama is a town in Huambo province, on the central highlands of Angola. This is high plateau country, cooler than the coast, with open land, farmland and scattered settlements linked by long regional roads. The town is small, and on a map its built-up area appears as a compact cluster.
The main road is the strongest element in the composition, carrying traffic across the highlands and giving the town its orientation. Smaller streets and tracks branch from it to reach homes and fields. Around the centre, the surrounding landscape is largely open, with only light lines marking paths and minor roads.
