Antipaxos lies just south of Paxos in the Ionian Sea, separated from it by a narrow channel that small boats cross every day in summer. It is a short island, only a few kilometres long. On a map it reads as a single rounded block of land with an irregular coastline, steeper and more exposed on the west, softer and more sheltered on the east.
There is no town in the usual sense. A handful of tracks wind between small vineyards, olive groves and stone houses. The permanent population is very small, and the island fills up only in summer, when visitors arrive by boat for the beaches. It is known for the clear, shallow water of its eastern coves and for wine made from its own grapes, a long local tradition.
Because so little is built on it, an Antipaxos map poster is mostly about outline: the bite of each cove, the narrow gap to Paxos, the way the island floats in open sea. The sheltered eastern shore is cut into small bays with pale sand and shallow water. This is the part of the coastline that gives the island its reputation among swimmers.

Instead of streets, a thin web of unpaved paths links vineyards, farmhouses and beaches, drawing faint lines across an otherwise open, green interior.
