Arcadia lies in the San Gabriel Valley, northeast of downtown Los Angeles. From above, the northern edge of the city meets the steep foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, while the rest of the map shows a regular grid of wide residential streets, large lots and tree-lined avenues. Interstate 210 cuts across the north.
The city is best known for Santa Anita Park, a historic horse racing track whose large oval stands out clearly on any map. Next to it lies the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden, on land that once belonged to the ranch of Elias J. Baldwin, one of the city's founders.
