Aurora is in Portage County, Ohio, southeast of Cleveland, in the old Connecticut Western Reserve. Its historic centre follows the New England tradition: a crossroads with a church, town hall and a few older buildings. From there, roads spread out into a wide area of winding subdivisions, woodland and ponds that covers much of the city.
Water plays a large part in the landscape. Several lakes lie within and around the city limits, and Aurora was once home to SeaWorld Ohio, which operated beside Geauga Lake until the early 2000s. Today much of the land is still wooded, and conservation areas interrupt the suburban street pattern.
An Aurora map poster shows a settlement defined by curves rather than a grid. The small historic centre marks the crossroads, the subdivisions add looping lines, and the lakes form clear blank shapes across the composition.
