Austin Map Poster & Print
Austin lies in southern Minnesota, close to the Iowa border, on the Cedar River. The town follows the regular grid of streets typical of Midwestern settlements. The river and its millpond run through the town and break the regularity with soft curves, and Interstate 90 passes along the northern edge.
Austin is best known as the headquarters of Hormel Foods, the company that created SPAM. The town is home to the SPAM Museum, which draws visitors from around the country. Parks and green spaces line the Cedar River and the millpond, and farmland surrounds the town in every direction.
An Austin map poster shows the straight streets of a classic Midwestern grid, broken by the winding course of the Cedar River and the open shape of the millpond. The interstate and the rural roads beyond give the composition a clear frame on the flat prairie.

The millpond
A widened section of the river near the centre forms the millpond. It is an open body of water that gives the map a clear focal shape.
Midwestern grid
Straight streets at right angles fill most of the town and form a regular pattern that extends toward the surrounding farmland.
