Batu Berendam lies a short way north of Melaka's historic centre, on the gently rolling land between the coast and the interior. From above it reads as a sequence of housing estates, each with its own loops of cul-de-sacs and terrace rows, joined by main roads. Patches of greenery and small streams fill the gaps between the neighbourhoods and soften the overall pattern.
The area is best known as the home of Melaka International Airport, still often called Batu Berendam Airport, whose runway is the strongest single line on the map. Around it, industrial zones and residential developments have grown steadily over recent decades as Melaka expanded outward from its old port. The result is a layered map where planned districts sit side by side.
