Biswān is a town in Sitapur district, Uttar Pradesh, set on the broad alluvial plain between the Gomti and Ghaghara rivers. From above the ground is almost perfectly level. Nothing on the map is bent by hills, so the town's shape comes from roads, old lanes and the fields that press in on every side.
The centre is a dense cluster of narrow streets and small blocks, the kind of fabric that grows over generations. From there, roads run out toward neighbouring villages and the district headquarters.
