Bountiful lies just north of Salt Lake City in Davis County, on the benches between the Wasatch Range and the shore of the Great Salt Lake. Its streets follow a broad north-south grid that climbs eastward up the slopes, becoming more curved and irregular as it reaches the steeper foothills.
Settled by Mormon pioneers soon after their arrival in 1847, it is among the oldest communities in Utah. The Bountiful Utah Temple stands high on the eastern bench, and Interstate 15 runs along the western side of town, separating the residential grid from the lower ground towards the lake.
A Bountiful map poster shows how the town leans against the mountains. The grid is even on the flats and bends on the hills, and in black and white the change from straight lines to contours gives the print a clear sense of the slope underneath.
