Burbank lies just south-west of Chicago, a short distance from Midway International Airport, and on the map it continues the city's grid almost without interruption. Straight streets run north to south and east to west, forming regular blocks lined with single-family houses, many of them brick bungalows typical of the area.
The town was incorporated relatively late, in 1970, after developing as a residential area in the post-war decades. Major arterial roads cross it at regular intervals, lined with shops and commercial buildings, while the residential streets between them are quiet and narrow, filling the blocks with evenly spaced lines.
