Camanducaia is in southern Minas Gerais, in the Serra da Mantiqueira near the border with São Paulo state. The mountains shape the entire municipality. The main town lies in a valley, while its district of Monte Verde, higher up, is a well-known mountain resort that attracts visitors with a cool climate, forests and chalet-style inns.

The Fernão Dias highway, linking São Paulo and Belo Horizonte, passes through the municipality.
