Caraúbas Map Poster & Print
Caraúbas is in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, in Brazil's semi-arid Northeast. The town takes its name from the caraúba, a tree native to the region. On a map, the centre is a compact, fairly regular grid of streets around a main church square, surrounded by dry scrubland known as caatinga.
Water shapes life in this part of Brazil. Streams run only in the rainy season, and small reservoirs, called açudes, store what they can. They appear on the map as irregular shapes outside town, connected by dirt roads and seasonal watercourses.
A Caraúbas map poster shows a town clearly separated from its landscape. The streets are tightly organised, and the countryside around them is open and sparsely marked. In black and white, that contrast is striking: a small, detailed grid surrounded by space.

Reservoirs outside town
Small açudes store water in the dry countryside. They appear as irregular, rounded shapes on the poster.
Seasonal streams
Watercourses that flow only in the rainy season cross the land. They leave faint, winding lines across the open space.
