Chivolo is a municipality in the Magdalena department of northern Colombia, in the warm, low-lying country of the Caribbean region. The town itself is compact, a small grid of streets around a central square, with the landscape opening out quickly into pasture beyond its edges.
The surrounding land is largely rural, used for cattle and farming, and the map shows rural roads crossing it in long lines toward neighbouring towns and farms. Small streams and wetland areas appear in places, typical of the low terrain of this part of the Caribbean plain.
