Chóngfú is a town in Tongxiang, part of Jiaxing in northern Zhejiang. It sits on the Hangjiahu plain, one of the most densely irrigated landscapes in China, where canals, rivers and ponds cover a large part of the land. From above, the town looks threaded with water, with streets and buildings arranged along the channels.
The town is widely known for its fur and leather trade, with large specialist markets drawing buyers from across the country. That commercial growth shows on the map as newer blocks and wide roads added around the older, canal-side core, which still follows the curving lines of the waterways.
