Choshi occupies the easternmost point of the Kanto region, a rounded headland in Chiba Prefecture with the Pacific on two sides. On the map, the Tone River forms a broad northern boundary as it reaches the sea, and the town's streets cluster around the harbour near the river mouth before thinning out across the peninsula.
The city is one of Japan's major fishing ports, known for large catches of sardines and mackerel. It is also a traditional centre of soy sauce making, home to long-established brewers such as Yamasa and Higeta. At the tip of the headland stands the Inubosaki lighthouse, looking out over the ocean.
