Cliffside Park occupies a narrow strip along the top of the Palisades in Bergen County, New Jersey. On a map, a tight grid of residential streets fills the plateau. The eastern edge is marked by the cliff and the river below, with tall residential buildings lined up along the rim for their views across the Hudson to Manhattan.
The borough is one of the most densely populated in the state, with a mix of small houses, apartment buildings and high-rise towers packed into little more than a square mile. Part of the old Palisades Amusement Park, which closed in 1971, once stood here. Its site is now covered by apartment towers.
