Correntes lies in the agreste of Pernambuco, the transitional zone between the humid coast and the dry sertão of north-east Brazil. From above, the town is compact: a small centre of streets and squares, surrounded by hills and farmland crossed by country roads.
The centre has the typical layout of a small north-eastern Brazilian town, with a main square, a church and streets branching out from them. Beyond it the land becomes open, with pastures, small farms and scattered houses connected by unpaved roads following the terrain.
