Delitzsch lies in northern Saxony, a short distance north of Leipzig. The medieval core still has a clear oval outline. The line of the old fortifications survives as a ring of streets and green space, and some towers still stand. Inside, a small network of lanes leads to the market square and the church. Outside the ring, later housing spreads across flat ground in a looser, more regular pattern.
The baroque castle and its gardens take up a distinct block beside the historic centre, and on the map they show as open space among dense streets. The small Lober river passes nearby.
