Douai Map Poster & Print
Douai lies in the Nord department of Hauts-de-France, on the Scarpe River between Lille and Arras. Its Gothic belfry, with a large carillon, is part of the UNESCO-listed Belfries of Belgium and France. The town was long a centre of law and learning and later became the heart of the northern coalfield, whose mining history still marks the surrounding landscape.
On the map, the historic centre forms a dense core framed by boulevards laid out along the line of the old fortifications. The Scarpe and its canals run through and around the town, with quays, bridges and locks. Straight roads lead out to the mining towns and former pits of the surrounding basin.
A Douai map poster brings out the layers of a northern French town: the medieval street pattern, the water threading through it, the formal boulevards and the more open suburbs beyond. The canals give the print a strong horizontal rhythm that works well in every style.

Scarpe and canals
The river and its canalised branches cross the town, lined with quays and small bridges. Together they form a network of water lines through the centre of the map.
Boulevard ring
Wide boulevards follow the line of the demolished ramparts. On the map they clearly separate the dense historic core from the later neighbourhoods.
