Ghouta farmland
Narrow orchard plots and irrigation-shaped field lines surround the town. They form a fine, uneven texture that contrasts with the denser streets at the centre.

Dūmā Map Poster
Dūmā lies a short distance northeast of Damascus, in the agricultural belt known as the Ghouta. This band of orchards and irrigated fields grew up around the Barada basin at the edge of the desert. From above, the town is a dense core of streets surrounded by the fine, irregular plots that have fed the capital for centuries.
It is the largest town of Eastern Ghouta and has long served as a market and administrative centre for the surrounding villages. The town was badly damaged during the Syrian war. For many people who have left, the street plan now carries memories of places that no longer look the way they did.
A Dūmā map poster keeps the town's shape as a line drawing. It shows the older, tighter lanes at the centre, the wider roads leading toward Damascus and the field boundaries at the edge. It is a way to hold on to the layout of home, drawn simply and without commentary.

Roads to Damascus
Main roads run southwest toward the capital and link Dūmā to the wider metropolitan area. They show as the strongest straight lines on the map.
Compact town core
At the centre, short irregular streets and small blocks give the map its darkest area. This is the older fabric that grew around markets and mosques.
