Elumalai is a town in the Madurai district of Tamil Nadu, west of Madurai toward the foothills of the Western Ghats. The name is generally understood to mean seven hills, and the surrounding landscape fits it, with rocky hills rising from the plain. On a map the town is a compact cluster of streets around a centre, with farmland stretching out to the ridges.
