Linear valley town
The built area stretches along the valley in long, narrow form. It is a clear example of a settlement shaped by steep ground rather than by planning.

Fenhe Map Poster & Print
Fenhe is a town in the far north-east of Chongqing municipality, in the mountainous country around the Yangtze's Three Gorges region. This is some of the most rugged terrain in central China. Deep valleys cut between high ridges, and flat land is scarce enough that every road and building has to follow the contours.
Fenhe's map shows that directly. The streets squeeze into a narrow band where the valley allows, often in one or two long parallel lines instead of a grid. Roads leave town in switchbacks and long curves, and small villages scatter along the slopes. In print the effect is spare and linear, a settlement drawn by the mountains.
A Fenhe map poster is for people from the town or the surrounding county, many of whom now live and work in larger cities. It captures a highland place in the landscape that surrounds it, not just in its buildings.

Switchback roads
Roads climbing out of the valley bend and loop back on themselves. They draw expressive curves across the paper that hint at the height of the ridges.
Three Gorges country
Fenhe lies in the mountains of north-eastern Chongqing, close to the Yangtze's famous gorge region, a landscape of high ridges and deep river valleys.
