Fern Creek is a community in the southeastern part of Louisville, Kentucky, in Jefferson County. It began as a small crossroads settlement on the road toward Bardstown. Since the mid-twentieth century it has grown into a suburban area of houses, schools and shopping centres. The creek it is named after still runs through the area.
Bardstown Road is its main axis, running diagonally across the map with commercial buildings along it. On either side, residential streets curve through gently rolling ground. Wooded areas follow the creek valleys and break the neighbourhood into separate pockets.
A Fern Creek map poster shows classic Kentucky suburbia: a long, busy road in the middle, curving side streets and cul-de-sacs branching from it, and green corridors along the water. In black and white, the creek lines give the composition a natural flow that a strict grid would lack.
