Furmanov Map Poster & Print
Furmanov is a town in Ivanovo Oblast, in the old textile heartland northeast of Moscow. For most of its history it was called Sereda. In 1941 it was renamed after Dmitry Furmanov, the writer born here, who is best known for his novel Chapaev. The town stands on the Shacha River, and its streets spread across both banks in a fairly regular pattern.
Like many towns in the Ivanovo region, Furmanov grew up around cotton mills in the nineteenth century. The factory complexes stand out on the map as large, solid shapes near the river. Around them are older streets of low houses and later blocks of flats, and the railway crosses the town in long, straight lines.
A Furmanov map poster captures the modest geometry of a provincial Russian factory town. The river curves through the centre, bridges link the two halves, and at the edges the grid loosens into dacha plots and fields. For people who grew up among the mills, it is a precise and personal record of home.

Mill districts
Former textile factories near the river form large rectangular footprints. They stand out clearly among the smaller residential blocks and recall the town's industrial past.
Railway line
The railway crosses Furmanov in a long, straight line. It is a strong graphic element that contrasts with the gentle curves of the river.
