Curving housing blocks

Gorbitz Map Poster & Print
Gorbitz is a district on the western side of Dresden, best known for the large housing estate built there in the final decade of the GDR. From above it looks nothing like the old city centre by the Elbe. Instead of a medieval street plan, you see long residential blocks laid out in bends and loops, with wide green spaces and service roads between them.
The estate was designed as one project, and the map shows it. Streets curve to follow the terrain, courtyards open between parallel buildings, and a tram line ties the district to the rest of the city. Around the edges, older village cores and patches of garden land show what stood here before the building work began.
A Gorbitz map poster captures a kind of urban form that is rarely framed: late socialist planning, drawn at a scale where its geometry becomes clear. It will appeal to people who grew up in these blocks, to those interested in postwar architecture, and to anyone who likes a map whose pattern looks almost designed on purpose.

Open courtyards and green
Between the blocks lie wide open spaces and paths, so the district reads as lines of building separated by generous gaps rather than a solid mass.
Link to central Dresden
Main roads and the tram route run east towards the city, giving the composition a clear axis and placing Gorbitz within the larger Dresden network.

ለምን Gorbitz
ትርጉም ያለው ካርታ
For many people Gorbitz was simply home, a first flat or the place where a family started out. A poster of its unusual plan is a personal record and also an honest piece of architectural history for the wall.
Add a title, a subtitle such as a street or a move-in year, and your own coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Blueprint suiting the planned geometry especially well, and download six HD sizes for $9 or order a printed poster.
