Compact town grid
Streets and compound walls form a tight, mostly regular pattern at the centre. On the print, this dense core contrasts sharply with the open land beyond.

Goundam Map Poster & Print
Goundam lies in the Timbuktu region of Mali, where the northern edge of the Niger inland delta meets the Sahara. From above, the town is a compact grid of sandy streets and walled compounds. Beyond it lies land shaped by water that comes and goes with the seasons: channels, lake basins and pale open ground.
The area is known for the lake system around Lake Faguibine, which once filled regularly with floodwater from the Niger. Severe droughts in the late twentieth century left the lakes dry for long periods, with serious effects on farming and fishing. Their partial return has been closely watched. Goundam has long served as a market and administrative centre for this landscape.
A Goundam map poster shows that tension between settlement and desert, with dense lines of the town at the centre and wide, lightly marked terrain all around. It is a spare composition that looks especially good in Sand or Paper. In those styles, the empty space reads as intended rather than missing.

Seasonal waterways
Channels linked to the Niger flood system pass near the town. Whether full or dry, they add faint curving lines across the flat ground.
Lake basins
To the north and west lie basins of the Faguibine lake system. Their broad outlines hint at how much this landscape depends on the river's yearly rise.

ለምን Goundam
ትርጉም ያለው ካርታ
Goundam is rarely printed on anything. For people from the Timbuktu region, or those who have worked there, a clean map of the town is a quiet reminder of a place defined by patience with water and sand.
Add a name, a date or coordinates to the title lines, and pick from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
