Guama is in the state of Yaracuy in northwestern Venezuela, in the fertile valley of the Yaracuy river. The town follows the traditional Spanish colonial pattern, with a regular grid of blocks around a central plaza. Farmland spreads outward across the valley floor, and hills rise around its edges.
The Yaracuy valley is known for agriculture, and the land around Guama is used for crops such as sugar cane, citrus and other fruit. Roads connect the town with San Felipe, the state capital, and with the main routes across this part of the country. Rivers and irrigation channels cross the plain between the fields.
