Hudson was founded in 1799 by David Hudson, a settler from Connecticut, in the Western Reserve of northeast Ohio. Its founders brought the New England town plan with them, and the map still shows it. Streets gather around a central village green, with the historic main street running along one side and quieter roads branching off into the town.
The clock tower on the green is Hudson's best-known landmark. Western Reserve Academy, a private school founded in the nineteenth century, sits near the centre with its own campus of brick buildings and lawns. Beyond the historic core the town spreads out in wooded subdivisions with curving drives, crossed by country roads that are older than the suburbs.
