Hukeri is a town in the Belagavi district of northern Karnataka and the headquarters of the taluk of the same name. It lies in a farming region close to the Maharashtra border. On a map it appears as a compact town surrounded by fields, with a denser historic core and newer streets spreading outward along the main roads.
The older part of town is made of tight, irregular lanes, the kind that grow up gradually over generations. Farther out, the layout becomes looser and more regular as housing and roads extend into the countryside. Highways and district roads connect Hukeri with nearby towns and draw strong lines across the surrounding farmland.
