Igaporã is a modest town in the south-west of Bahia, far from the coast, in the dry uplands of the sertão. On a map its centre is compact: a few blocks laid out in a loose grid around a central square, with streets fading quickly into unpaved roads and open land. The surrounding terrain is uneven and sparsely settled.
The wider region is known for its high, windy ridges, and several wind farms have been built in this part of Bahia. Around the town, roads follow the landscape rather than a plan, winding between farms and low hills toward neighbouring municipalities.
