Imouzzer Kandar lies in the Middle Atlas south of Fes, on the road that climbs towards Ifrane and Azrou. It sits at more than a thousand metres above sea level, and its cooler summers made it a popular retreat for people from Fes. From above, the town is a compact arrangement of streets on the plateau edge.
Orchards and farmland surround the town, and apples are a well-known local product. Imouzzer Kandar holds an apple festival. Further out, the map shows cedar and oak forest, and the lake of Dayet Aoua lies a short distance to the south. The main road runs through town and gives it a clear axis.
