Izyum Map Poster & Print
Izyum stands on the Siverskyi Donets river in the south-east of Kharkiv Oblast. The river loops through the area in broad meanders, splitting the town into districts on either bank and leaving wide floodplain meadows, oxbow lakes and wooded islands between them. Bridges carry the main roads across, and on a map they are the essential links that hold the town together.
Kremenets, a hill known for its ancient stone figures and its view over the valley, rises above the town. Izyum grew from a seventeenth-century frontier fortress. In 2022 it was occupied during Russia’s full-scale invasion and suffered heavy destruction before Ukrainian forces retook it that September.
An Izyum map poster records how the town is laid out on the land: the curves of the river, the bridges, the grid of residential streets and the hill above them. For people from Izyum and those who care about it, the map can be a quiet act of remembrance. It is also a way to keep the shape of home close while the town is rebuilt.
