Juja lies in Kiambu County, northeast of Nairobi, along the Thika Superhighway. From above, the highway is the defining line. It runs straight through the area, and roads to new residential estates, plots and small commercial centres branch off on both sides.
The town is best known as the home of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Its large campus, with academic buildings, residences and farm land, occupies a substantial part of the map. Many of the surrounding neighbourhoods have grown up around the student population.
A Juja map poster shows a place in the middle of change. Planned plots and access roads spread out from the highway, while open land and farms still fill the gaps. In black and white, the campus grounds and the long highway line give the composition a clear structure.
