Kampung Cheng is part of the Melaka urban area, just north of the historic city centre. From above, it looks like a patchwork. Older kampung lanes wind among scattered houses, while newer housing estates sit in neat blocks of terraced rows with their own small internal street grids.
Main roads link the area to central Melaka and the highway network, and these form the strong lines on the map. Between them, estates of different ages fit together at varied angles, with pockets of greenery, plantation land and open ground in between. Small streams and drainage channels add thin lines that run through the low-lying land.
