Kelaa Kebira lies in the Sahel of Tunisia, a short distance inland from Sousse. This coastal plain is famous for olive growing, and the map reflects it immediately. The town is a compact block of streets, surrounded on all sides by the regular spacing of olive groves and the farm tracks that run between them.
The centre is densely built, with narrow, irregular streets typical of older Sahel towns, and the newer districts at the edges are laid out more regularly.
