Kiskunhalas is in Bács-Kiskun county in southern Hungary, on the Great Hungarian Plain. The landscape is flat, and the town's map is shaped by long roads reaching out across farmland and by the regular blocks of its centre. The town is best known for Halas lace, a fine needle lace developed here at the start of the twentieth century and still made by hand. It is also a historic market town of the Kiskunság region, with a traditional windmill that has become one of its familiar landmarks.
