Korntal is part of the town of Korntal-Münchingen, just northwest of Stuttgart in Baden-Württemberg. It was founded in 1819 as a religious community of the Pietist Brüdergemeinde. Its original layout was drawn up as a planned settlement, which still gives the centre an orderly, deliberate feel that is easy to see from above.
The historic heart is organised around the community hall and its square, with streets laid out in a regular pattern. Later residential areas spread out around it in the looser curves typical of German suburbs. Fields and orchards still separate Korntal from its neighbours in several directions.
A Korntal map poster brings out the measured geometry of that nineteenth-century plan. It sits among newer streets and the open farmland of the Stuttgart hinterland. It is a subtle map, best appreciated at close range, where the planned core becomes clearer the longer you look.
