Kostyantynivka is in Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine, in the rolling steppe of the Donbas. The city grew along small river valleys, including the Kryvyi Torets, and from above it combines large factory sites, rail yards and planned residential neighbourhoods of apartment blocks and private houses.
It developed as an industrial centre, known in particular for glassmaking and metallurgy, with plants that shaped its layout around the railway. Since 2022 the city has been heavily affected by the war, and much of its population has left.
