Kushtagi lies in Koppal district in northern Karnataka, on the open Deccan plateau, where the land is broad, dry and gently rolling. The town is the headquarters of a taluk of the same name. From above, it forms a compact centre of older streets, with newer neighbourhoods stretching along the main roads that pass through it.
