Laguna Beach lies on the coast of Orange County, between Newport Beach and Dana Point. The town runs in a long, narrow strip along the ocean. Pacific Coast Highway follows the shoreline, and streets climb steeply into the hills above. On the map, the coastline is broken into many small coves and rocky points, and canyons cut inland.
The town has been an artists' colony since the early twentieth century, and it still hosts well-known summer art events, including the Pageant of the Masters. Main Beach sits at the foot of Laguna Canyon Road, which leads inland through a natural valley. Tide pools and clifftop parks line much of the coast.
