Lake Shore is a community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, on the peninsula between the Magothy River and the Chesapeake Bay, east of Pasadena. The shoreline here is anything but straight. Creeks, coves and inlets cut deep into the land and create a coastline that doubles back on itself again and again.
Roads follow the land between the water. Residential streets wind toward waterfront lots, and small communities cluster around marinas and beaches. Downs Park faces the bay, and Gibson Island lies just across the water to the south.
A Lake Shore map poster shows one of the most intricate coastlines in the region. Fingers of water reach into the land, streets curve to follow them, and the open bay fills one side of the frame. It is a strongly graphic, almost lace-like composition.
