Lidu lies on the Yangtze River in Chongqing, within the Fuling area in the east of the municipality. As in much of this region, the land rises quickly from the water. The town's streets follow the riverbank and then climb onto the slopes and ridges above, leaving the steepest ground as green space.
The area has developed quickly in recent years, and wide planned roads and large residential blocks now sit beside older streets closer to the river. The Yangtze is broad and powerful here, and it gives the whole map its main shape, a sweeping curve that frames the town along one side.
