Madison is a borough in Morris County, New Jersey, west of Newark and about an hour from Manhattan by train. The railroad passes through the centre of the town, and the station stands at the heart of the downtown area. Main Street runs parallel to the tracks, and residential streets extend on either side in a loose, tree-lined grid.
Madison is known as The Rose City, a nickname that goes back to the nineteenth century when rose growing in greenhouses was a major local industry. Today the town is also home to Drew University, whose wooded campus fills a large area on the map, and part of a Fairleigh Dickinson University campus.
