Canal lattice
Irrigation canals and distributaries cross the plain around the town in long, straight lines. Few landscapes are as regular, and on the map the channels form a geometric frame around Mailsi.

Mailsi Map Poster & Print
Mailsi is a town in Vehari District in southern Punjab, set on the wide, level plain north of the Sutlej River. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets. Around it lies a very regular landscape of fields, canals and village tracks, with the lines of irrigation stretching toward the horizon in every direction.
The surrounding area depends on canal irrigation, and the waterways are the landscape's strongest lines. The best-known structure is the Mailsi Siphon, where a link canal passes under the Sutlej riverbed. The town itself has a busier core of market streets that loosens toward the edges into residential lanes and then open farmland.
A Mailsi map poster shows how closely town and countryside fit together here. The streets form a dense centre, and the canals and roads run outward in long, straight lines across the plain. In black and white, the drawing shows how much human planning shapes even an apparently simple agricultural landscape.

Market core
The centre of town is a tighter cluster of streets where most commerce happens. It reads as a denser knot surrounded by more open residential lanes.
Sutlej plain
The Sutlej River flows to the south of the town, across flat, fertile land. The river and its water engineering are a large part of why the area is farmed so intensively.
