Railway line
The railway passes the town in a long straight line and widens near the station into sidings and yards, giving the poster a strong linear accent.

Makinsk Map Poster & Print
Makinsk is a town in Aqmola Region in northern Kazakhstan, between the capital, Astana, and Kokshetau. It grew around the railway that crosses this part of the steppe, and on the map the tracks are still a strong line beside the town. The streets form a largely regular grid, the orderly plan typical of settlements built or expanded in the Soviet period.
Blocks of low houses with gardens fill much of the town, with larger apartment buildings and industrial sites closer to the railway. Wide streets run in straight lines and meet at right angles, and the town ends abruptly where the steppe begins. Small lakes are scattered across the wider landscape, and roads lead away toward villages and farmland.
A Makinsk map poster shows the town as a clean, geometric figure on a very open background. It suits people who grew up here and left for Astana, Russia or further afield, and anyone who knows this stretch of the northern railway. In black and white, the long straight lines of the streets and track look almost architectural, a quiet portrait of a steppe town.

Regular street grid
Residential streets run in straight, parallel rows and cross at right angles. The rectangular pattern is easy to read even at smaller print sizes.
Steppe edge
The town ends sharply where the open steppe begins, leaving large empty areas around the grid that emphasise its compact shape.
