Marinilla lies in eastern Antioquia, Colombia, on the high plateau of the Valle de San Nicolás, a short distance from Rionegro and the airport that serves Medellín. From above, the town has the classic plan of a Spanish-founded settlement: a regular grid of blocks around a central plaza.
