Mastung is a town in Balochistan, Pakistan, in a high valley south of Quetta. The climate is dry, winters are cold, and the surrounding mountains are mostly bare rock. In this setting, the valley floor stands out as a place where water can be gathered for farming, and orchards and fields have long been part of the landscape.
