Valley-bound streets
The town extends along its valley rather than outward, so the street plan forms a slim band of detail in the middle of the poster.

Maying Map Poster & Print
Maying is a town in Gansu province in north-western China, set in the mountains of the province's far south. With around sixteen thousand residents, it is a local centre in a landscape where flat land is scarce. The map shows what that means in practice: settlements and roads follow the valleys, and the ridges between them stay mostly empty.
The street network is long and narrow rather than round. Buildings line the main road and the watercourse beside it, and short side lanes climb a little way up the slopes before stopping. Beyond the town, the same road carries on through the valley to the next settlement, a single thread that links the whole district.
A Maying map poster works with that elongated form. Most of the composition is open space, where only a few paths and the valley line suggest the mountains around it. The town itself is a concentrated band of detail. It's an unusual, minimal image of a place shaped mainly by its terrain.

The through road
One main road runs the length of the valley and ties Maying to its neighbours. It is the strongest single line in the composition.
Open mountain space
The ridges around the town hold few roads or buildings. They leave broad areas of blank space that give the print a quiet, spacious feel.
