Melíssia is a suburb in the northern part of the Athens area, in the Attica region, on the lower slopes of Mount Penteli. It sits between the denser districts toward Marousi and the mountain above, and the land rises steadily from its lower edge to its upper streets.
Because of the slope, the streets here curve and switch back rather than forming a regular grid, and many plots are wooded, with pine trees among the houses. The area developed largely as a residential suburb in the twentieth century, valued for its cooler air and green setting close to the city.
