Memuro-minami is part of the town of Memuro on the Tokachi plain in eastern Hokkaido, just west of Obihiro. From above, the landscape is strikingly geometric. Streets form a regular grid, and beyond the town, fields are laid out in large rectangles, separated by straight roads and lines of windbreak trees.
The Tokachi plain is one of Japan's main agricultural regions, known for potatoes, beans, sugar beet and dairy. This agricultural character is visible on the map, with the built-up area occupying only a small part of a much larger pattern of fields. The Hidaka Mountains lie to the west.
