Miracema lies in the northwest of Rio de Janeiro state, near the border with Minas Gerais, in the hilly interior far from the coast. The terrain is made of rounded hills and narrow valleys, and from above the town fills the lower ground with streets that bend along the valley and a stream running through it.
The centre sits on the flatter land, with a church square and commercial streets, while newer neighbourhoods climb the slopes on winding roads. Pasture and patches of forest cover the surrounding hills, giving the edges of the map an open, undulating feel.
A Miracema map poster shows a town shaped by topography. The streets thread along the valley rather than forming a regular grid, the hills leave open space around them, and the whole composition has the organic flow of a settlement that grew with the land.
